The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office won the DWI Agency of the Year award at the 2025 Vehicular Crimes and Public Safety ceremony. The county recorded 2,671 DWI arrests over the past year, and sheriff's officials say the number shows both stepped-up enforcement and a persistent drunk driving problem.
The award comes as the county district attorney's office and the DWI Task Force are ramping up their holiday enforcement patrols. Through New Year's, extra units will be out on known problem corridors and near bars and restaurants where DWI arrests tend to spike this time of year.
Department leadership pointed to training investments and wider use of no-refusal blood draw warrants during enforcement operations. The office has also been working more joint operations with other agencies across the county.
In The Woodlands, the bars and restaurants along the Waterway and Market Street keep impaired driving enforcement on the to-do list year-round. The sheriff's office says it plans to add more staff and equipment to DWI programs in 2026, paid for through grants and the township's public safety budget.
